IUS Track

The IUS Track team has been practicing after school on Tuesdays from 2-4, and the team just had their first track meet on May 15th from 8am-11am in the morning against Grove City High School’s IUS team. Mrs. Cole began sponsoring IUS sports teams four years ago so that the students at Slippery Rock High School with different abilities would become closer.

Senior Eric Rodgers is one of the participants in IUS track. Rodgers also participated on the IUS Bocce team, which competed earlier this winter. For IUS Track, Rodgers competes in the javelin event. He says he really enjoys IUS track because “It lets me make new friends and I enjoy playing sports… [and I] want to do IUS Track again next year.”

Junior Kassy Kreutz-Heister is another participant in IUS Track. In track and field, she competes in javelin and running events. Kreutz-Heister says she enjoys being a part of IUS Track because “I am good at it and I find it entertaining” and her favorite part about IUS Track is “Having fun with my friends.”

Junior Morgan Murdock also is a part of IUS track team. She enjoys IUS because of the “liveliness of the kids and how they’re full of energy.” When asked if she would participate in IUS Track next year, she said, “Of course!” Murdock also participated in IUS Bocce in the winter. She explained that she already knew everyone who has helped with the program before, but by being a member of the team, she has become closer friends to all who are on the team.
